5 Days to Go

So many of you know that I am heading to Cape Town, South Africa to participate in volunteer work. My work assignment is in a primary school where the student to teacher ratio is 40:1. I will be working closely with the children of the township, teaching English, math, and utilizing my skills to provide the best education.

I set out July 26th and return August 18th. I can't say that I am not nervous, because I am. I am leaving behind the conforts of home, family, friends, and my wonderful boyfriend, whom I will miss dearly. Opportunity only comes once in awhile and when it does you have to seize it.

I created this blog to document my journey, through words and pictures. As a way for family and friends to follow me as I experience life changing moments. I will be updating this regularly, so please be sure to follow me.

Not only will I be helping the South African community, I will be partaking in excursions such as diving with the great whites in Gansbaai, touring the Aquilla Game Reserve, sampling South African Wine at one of the many vineyards, and wherever else the country takes me. I plan to see it all, try different foods (although I will not be eating a sheep's head as I was told will be presented to me).
